Becoming a Non-Profit Organization

Roots Ethiopia has some exciting news! Not only do we have a fabulous field report to share soon but we’ve made the very big decision to move forward and file for 501(c)3 status!

Anyone who’s ever been involved with launching a non-profit knows that the requirements are stringent and the paperwork intense. We wondered whether we were big enough and bold enough to go it on our own. We’ve sought a lot of expert counsel since launching Roots Ethiopia and, in recent months, everyone agreed that to build a culturally responsive and wise program, the best course of action was to become a fully independent non-profit organization.

We’ve temporarily halted accepting donations while we wait for all of our paperwork to be approved. We expect to be able to begin accepting donations at or around the holidays, so please remember us as you make your giving plans. We expect that 2013 will be a very big year for us.

Thank you so much for being a part of Roots Ethiopia’s growth. With your help, we’re going to do incredible things.
